Dental Implants

Dental implants are a permanent solution for patients who have lost one or more of their natural teeth. They are small, titanium screws that are placed directly into the jawbone, supporting the replaced teeth in the form of bridges, crowns or secure dentures.

We see patients who have lost their teeth, from gum disease and decay to accident and injury. Whatever the reason, missing teeth can have a serious, negative impact on your quality of life. As well as making you self-conscious about smiling. Having missing teeth means that additional strain is put on any remaining teeth which results in position movement, teeth becoming crooked and also difficult to clean.

The only permanent solution to missing teeth is having dental implants put in. They have several advantages over other options. The implants are osteoconductive, meaning they support bone growth, integrating with the bone and providing a firm anchor for the replaced tooth. This helps to prevent the bone loss that causes the sagging appearance in the face. Replacement teeth fixed by implants also look just like regular teeth.

Veneers

Dental veneers are a common cosmetic dental treatment used to correct minor imperfections, usually in the front upper teeth. They are very thin layers of porcelain that are precisely made to fit over the front surface of a tooth. In much the same way that a false fingernail fits over your natural nail. They are made to closely match the natural colour of your teeth.

Veneers can be used to cover stained or discoloured teeth, to disguise small cracks and chips, to close small gaps when orthodontic treatment is not appropriate. In some cases to bring a slightly misaligned tooth into a more desirable position. For chipped teeth, the porcelain or composite covers the whole of the front of the tooth, with a thicker section to replace the broken part.

We can create a single veneer for one discoloured or chipped tooth, or a whole set to cover all of your front teeth. Veneers make your teeth look natural and healthy, and are one of the quickest ways to boost the appearance of your smile.

One of the major advantages of veneers is that they require only minimal preparation of your teeth. A very small amount of enamel may be removed so that the veneer can be bonded properly, using a special dental adhesive.

Bridges and Crowns

Crowns and bridges are among the most common restorative dental treatments. Bridges are used to replace one or a few missing teeth, while crowns are used to restore worn, weakened and damaged teeth. At Access Smile, we offer metal-free crowns and bridges, which look highly natural and do not have the dark shadows.

Bridges

Bridges are used to replace one or a couple of adjacent missing teeth. They comprise crowns or wings attached to surrounding teeth, with a false tooth or teeth in between. Because they act as a support to the false teeth, the surrounding teeth need to be strong and in good condition.

It improves the appearance of your smile and also helps your dental health, because food particles and bacteria can get trapped in gaps left by missing teeth, leading to gum disease or tooth decay.

Our expert technicians will make your bridge to closely match the natural colour of your teeth. At your first appointment, your teeth will be prepared and measured for your bridge, with impressions taken. When your bridge is ready you’ll have your second appointment, during which your bridge will be fitted.

Crowns

Crowns are artificial restorations that are fitted over teeth that are very worn, are broken or are weakened by a large filling or root canal treatment. They are also sometimes used on healthy teeth to support a bridge. Crowns made of tooth-coloured zirconia are not just extremely natural looking, they are also very strong, meaning that they are suitable for both front and back teeth. We also offer pressed ceramic crowns, which are excellent for the front teeth, being transparent thus highly natural.

Fillings: Inlays/Onlays

Fillings, inlays and onlays are restorations that are used to improve the appearance and function of teeth that have suffered from decay. At Access Smile, we use only tooth-coloured material for our fillings, inlays and onlays, meaning that as well as being very strong and durable, they are aesthetically pleasing.

Fillings: Without Drilling

One of the major causes of dental fear and phobia is the dentist’s drill. Even with modern drills and local anaesthetic, the noise of the drill strikes fear into the heart of many patients. That’s why at Access Smile we are delighted to offer fillings without drilling.

how it works?

Our dental team have been specially trained in using the latest equipment, which means no more drilling. Your tooth will first be thoroughly cleaned with our Ozonitron device, which uses ozone gas to kill bacteria. We will then discover the extent of the decay using a laser caries detecting device called DIAGNOdent. If decay above a certain level is found, we will use the RONDOflex air abrasion device to blow compressed air and fine aluminium oxide powder into the cavity. Wearing off decayed, loose tooth tissues while causing no damage to healthy tooth tissues. All of this is completely painless, and your tooth is ready for filling with a tooth-coloured composite material.

Inlays

Inlays are made by our dental technicians in cases when too much of the tooth is missing for a standard white filling. They are restorations that sit inside the tooth cavity. Inlays can restore the biting surface of teeth as well as the adjoining surfaces of teeth next to each other. It is important for the temporomandibular joints as well as preventing food getting jammed between the teeth. Your dentist will take an impression of your tooth so that your inlay can be precisely made by our technicians.

Inlays can be made from Gradia (plastic), traditional ceramic or pressed ceramic. Ceramic inlays are highly aesthetically pleasing and thanks to the use of a special dental adhesive, the tooth is effectively sealed to protect and support the remaining tooth tissue.

Onlays

Onlays are similar to inlays and are made from the same materials, but as the name suggests they sit on top of a tooth to restore it and build up its shape. Onlays cover the entire chewing surface of the tooth, providing extra strength.

Smile Design

During your initial smile design consultation, our expert cosmetic dentist will first seek to understand the look you really want. They will go over all of the factors which influence it, specific to your characteristics. This means you work with the dentist to design your perfect smile. Then, once agreed, they will create your new smile with temporary solutions (wax up models, temporary veneers, temporary crowns). Which means you can now try the proposed design in your own mouth. These temporaries can be modified to your exact requirements and the changes will be duplicated in the finished restorations.

So, the final decision is still yours and only when you are happy with your new smile does the permanent treatment start.
